Improving a client's dietary patterns and practices can boost immunity, strengthen resilience, and enhance overall wellness—which is why nutrition-based intervention is our first-line therapeutic strategy.

Your relationship to food is central to your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Your environment, culture, and core values strongly influence it. This is why we strongly promote Mindful Eating practices. As a therapeutic intervention, mindful eating allows you to become aware of your inner wisdom around food choices. It shifts the focus from judgmental thoughts about food to exploring and savoring the eating experience. It empowers you to recognize natural cues for hunger and satiety, brings all your senses to the food experience, and connects you to emotional and physical responses that occur before, during, and after you eat.

A focus on optimizing health that involves strengthening your nutrition knowledge, engaging in regular exercise, and getting plenty of rest helps establish important life habits that will naturally lead to weight stabilization. Incorporating a diet rich in lean protein, various colorful vegetables, fish, whole grains, low glycemic fruit, nuts, seeds, and healthy oils provides the necessary nutrients your body needs to metabolize your food, repair cells, eliminate cells toxins and provide sufficient energy. It also helps regulate your insulin sensitivity, boost your immune system and balance your hormones related to hunger and satiety.
Nutrition is a complex, dynamic, and evolving discipline with frequently conflicting and confusing messages. Most people cannot discern between healthy and unhealthy foods because the data is always changing and is often intentionally manipulated or distorted. As information rapidly shifts, patients become overwhelmed and ambivalent. As a professional nutritionist, I help patients navigate this complex landscape with sensitivity and knowledge using a Functional Nutrition model of care. I recognize how psychological, emotional and cultural factors influence choice and how respecting those factors can transform reluctant patients into committed partners in their own health. Patient empowerment is the core of my nutrition practice.
It is important to note that chronic illness is a construct of modern society. When the agricultural age replaced our hunter-gatherer predecessors, food became abundant but lost much of its nutritional value due to over farming and the stripping of nutrients from soil. Our food supply was further decimated when the food industry prioritized profit over people and began pumping sugar, trans fats and refined carbohydrates into every item on grocery shelves and in restaurant chains across the country. As a result, we have found ourselves in a position where the nutritionist is uniquely positioned at the forefront of an innovative health paradigm.
I embrace my role in that revolution.
